extended reality

Digital alter egosvivid virtual versions of the idols that are as close as possible to their physical bodies — are now designed to meet fans in all dimensions. KPOP companies are creating these virtual extensions of the self in order to meet a need that, even if it is in many ways fulfilled, still remains, that is: The craving for contact with the original physical person of the idol, so that its third-party representations can retain their evocative potential. Augmented reality and virtual filters also participate in alleviating the source of this need by allowing fans to create scenarios where they share the same space as the idol; the place occupied by the original physical idol, while still useful and necessary for activating the fan's imagination, is thus increasingly insignificant compared to the place it occupies as an immaterial, tangible presence in the lives of their fans.
